Independence Day, 1827 Location: Historic Fort Snelling Hwys 5 and 55 Saint Paul, Minnesota 55111-4060 Starts at: 12:00 AM This is an all day event Description: Independence Day was one of the few holidays celebrated throughout the republic in the 19th century. Americans everywhere made the most of it and Fort Snelling was no exception. Historically, the day was marked with a parade, patriotic speeches, release of all prisoners in the guardhouse, festive meals and the general carousing that typified American patriotic celebrations. Participate in a reception for distinguished visitors, enjoy a theatrical presentation, and dance with the residents of the frontier fort. Cannon salutes, Patriotic speeches, theatrical presentations, military dress parade, patriotic and military fife and drum music and period games and dancing will be presented.
